About Campaign Compliance Hub
A plain-language guide to the campaign finance rules small campaigns trip over, written for a first-time candidate or a volunteer treasurer.
Not legal advice. Nothing on this site creates a lawyer-client relationship or replaces your filing office.
Who made this
Campaign Compliance Hub is made by someone with years of technical experience on political campaigns. This site answers common questions from new candidates and treasurers, such as when to register, what goes in a disclaimer and what to ask donors, in plain English.
It is independent and nonpartisan. It is not affiliated with the Federal Election Commission, the Ohio Secretary of State or any state agency.
How pages are sourced
- Every rule starts on an official source: FEC.gov, the Code of Federal Regulations on eCFR, a state election agency, or another government or standards body for the website checklist.
- We read the source, write the rule in plain English and link the source right under it.
- Each rule shows the date we last read that source. Numbers are never carried over from memory or from another site.
- Where a source shows a rule with an exception or an open question, the page says so.
How pages are dated
Federal contribution limits are adjusted every two years and filing calendars change each cycle. A "checked" date tells you when a figure was last confirmed. If the date is old, read the linked source before relying on it.
Spotted something out of date? The fastest fix is to check the linked source. Want to know when pages change? Sign up for updates.
